I have been abit of a moody man as of late. Which sucks becos dat means I can unintentionally come across as mean π
Mostly cos of a weightlifting competition coming up in abt a month’s time, which I’ve been made to follow a strict weekly training schedule for like, the past couple of months.
Sessions last abt 3-4 hours. Sometimes once a day, sometimes twice a day. It sorta requires me to always give my 100%, which low-key sucks cos everything is very heavy. It’s oso tapping on the remaining supply of joy I have left the sport.

Personally, such a regime has nvr rlly been my style when it comes to training. The way I see it, being a bunch of amateurs, I see no reason we shld be following the system of the professionals.

.
The wear and tear on my body after each session doesn’t feel great. But it tends to get better after a day or two.
Unfortunately when it does, it’s time to train again π. My body hasn’t felt fresh in quite a while now. Shoulders, wrists, knees, ankles, even my shins. They dun seem to be very happy wif wat I’m getting them to do…

.
The mind isn’t spared either. Doing the same lift over and over and over. Then working on different parts of those lifts, over and over and over…
Emphasis on efficiency and consistency. There is no room for creativity in dis sport, unfortunately.
It’s kinda like training to be a robot, to do these two very specific lifts. Meaning it’s boring as hell, lol.
.
The frustration inevitably piles up. Oso feels like I’m getting dumber too. Thankfully I have dis blog… and oso the World Cup’s going on. Gives me something to look forward to when I wake up π

.
Also been rewatching a documentary on Bulgarian weightlifting back in the 80s.

One part of it has a lifter telling us his thoughts. He describes the whole feeling perfectly:
“How many times I’ve just been sick and tired of lifting at all.”
“Don’t even want to touch the barbell.”
“Not laziness, just a disgust towards the barbell. Your mind doesn’t let you. It puts you on the bench and says – no, don’t go.”
“The difficult thing is that our sport is dull. Not like cycling – they paddle all day, but they see the landscape, the trees, the bushes. For us, it’s always the same – barbell, resting bench… that’s it..”

…Btw, those lifters’ lives look depressing as hell, lol. Imagine having to do dis same bullshit everyday for years as a living π€’
