{ Bikey Bike }

I am not someone who’s exactly keen on having children. Society is just a tad bit too all over the place at the moment, wif all the outdated expectations dat can’t be met wif the current state of the economy. And it doesn’t seem to be getting better in the near future. The world at large oso doesn’t look all dat great.

Me watching the news everyday

But every once in a while I see something dat makes me think hmmm, dats pretty nice actly…

.

On the way home, I passed by a young girl, going thru the rite of passage of learning to cycle on an oversized bike.

Her father was beside her, holding on to the handles, while giving her some tactical advice on this complicated manoeuvre. “Just paddle ah, then u won’t fall down. Ok. Don’t scared. Daddy hold on ☺️”

Understandably, the act of having to lay ur entire bodyweight on a questionable metal contraption being supported by 2 thin wheels, is a little difficult for newcomers. But the beauty of it is dat once you’ve learnt how to do so, it’s hard to forget.

Look at dis beautiful stock photo

It’s a wholesome sight to see on a Tuesday evening, I must say. Some G-rated family friendly activities.

.

Reminds me of when I learnt to ride a bike. Unfortunately my dad was busy wif work, so he sorta delegated dat task to my brother.

Though, based on how my dad used to teach me math, I was low-key pretty grateful for dat…

Anyways, while I was learning how to ride the bicycle, my brother and I wld oso use dat time to chat. U noe, have some real man-to-man conversations (as manly as it cld be between an 11 and 15-year-old)

Topics cld range from Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon, to actual life things like wat to expect after primary school, and wat social life is like during teenagehood.

.

It didn’t take me long to eventually get the hang of riding the bike. And when I did it felt euphoric, and I then went on to ride it everyday, lol. I felt like Sonic the Hedgehog, unstoppable as I zoom zoom abt.

And cycling in the rain 🌧️, oof, pure bliss.

At the same time it oso concluded the short-lived chapter of our “dude time” 😐

.

Looking back, while the acquisition of the ability to ride was great, I mustn’t take for granted the journey it took me to get there. By dat I mean the masqueraded bonding sessions, dat wld probably not have taken place otherwise. As well as the satisfaction for all parties when I finally managed to cycle 😎

Now I understand why learning to ride a bike is so commonly referred to by parents as essential, even if the practical usage of it might not be so common everyday…

Does dis make me want kids? Definitely not lol. But does it make me imagine having one and bonding thru our time spent together learning? Absolutely 😁
