As for who I’m tagging. Well, anyone dat reads dis post, I guess. Yep, all like…. three of u 🙃

So, inspired by the theme of ‘spreading positivity’, I made it a point to do 3 acts of kindness (or life better-ing) for others dis week, and share it here. Nothing too out there, just simple things. Results varied. Here’s how they went;

(Monday, 25/05)

Walking to the MRT in the late afternoon, I saw an old Chinese lady pushing her shopping trolley down the stairs. She seemed to be struggling, so I went to help.

When I did so, she looked confused and started talking to me in Mandarin…. or was it Hokkien 🤔

As I dun speak or understand the Chinese language(s), I just blankly looked at her like:

After a while, she realised dat I had no idea wat she was saying, and started talking to me in Malay instead. Ah yes, dats something I’m familiar wif. Now we’re on the same page 👍

So on the way there she started talking abt… well, old ppl things, to put it bluntly. Her younger years, wat things used to be like where we were. Things like dat. I just nodded along and was like ooo dats nice 🙂

…then out of nowhere she started talking abt the different races… and threw in some rather rAciSt things…. Like wat dafoq dat came out of nowhere.

I noe the older generation tend to be less filtered, but hot damn 🫪

I feel like at dat point she again forgot I wasn’t Chinese like her, and like u noe, wasn’t oso racist. So it was sorta like dis:

Then she ran out of things to say. And it got abit awkward cos I too didn’t rlly noe wat to say after dat. Just an uncomfortable silence between us, as i was still pushing her trolley.

(Wednesday 27/05)

Ok dis abit cheating 😼, cos the money gets taken out of my bank account every month regardless. But I’m counting dis, goddamit.

I rmb donating to them for the fire time when I began earning as a dumb NSF conscript, a couple years back. It was sorta just to give me a lil more motivation to go to work everyday. Suddenly it felt nice to see money going into my bank account every month, knowing wat I can do wif it 😊

Hmmm, wld probs up the amount in the future, once I’m a full-time salary man. But for now, I’ll give wat I comfortably can…

(Saturday 30/05)

The universe aligned and tried to assist me wif dis one. Tried.

So I was walking home when I was stopped by a young boy on his bike, who looked pretty distraught. He got my attention by calling me sir. I was like damn, sir~ , ofc I gotta help dis lad out 🫡

He asked if I had a plastic bag. From wat I saw he didn’t have one to put away the file dat he was carrying wif his hand. Neither did his bike have a basket. So I can imagine dat carrying it while steering isn’t the most comfortable thing in the world…

But inside I was like alriteeee. Dis is where heroes are made. Lemme check my bag…

All while the kid was looking at me like:

Unfortunately I had to break the news to him dat I did not have such an item in my possession. He sighed, but thanked me anyway, b4 proceeding wif his journey.

Poor guy, wished I cldve done more to help…. more than nothing 😔

A few minutes later I went to take out my earpiece from my bag. It was at its side pocket as usual. But something was in the way…

An empty, folded plastic bag. Of course…

So, I’m not exactly the most natural at spreading kindness. But I’ll still continue to try my best. Becos I noe dat it’s the proper thing to do, regardless of circumstances, right ? 🙏

well…. unless they’re racist… then maybe it’s lil more subjective…. 😶
