{ Instagram Woes }

I’ve been back to using Instagram for a couple of months now. I had previously deleted the app, as well as my account, around a year or two ago.

From wat I’ve seen, it’s still mostly the same, wif the exception of some new features, which I’d prolly not use anyways, lol.

Idk wat dis icon on stories is yet

As to why I deleted my previous account, the reason I told people was becos I just got bored of it, and dat it was eating too much of my time.

Well, those are factors, yes. I mean, scrolling does get addictive. Some funny and genuinely interesting content on there, dat makes me breathe out my nose a lil bit.

But then u get to like the 500th same, repeated pic or joke you’ve seen dat week, and at dat point u just sigh in disappointment…

In terms of the accounts I was mutually following, like 90% of their accounts wld be photos of themselves, things they did, and places they went to.

Dats all fine and dandy. It’s nice to see ppl appreciating and cherishing their memories.

But after a while, it just felt like I was looking at ppl’s very personal albums.

Some of the content even seemed primarily posted to show off to others and gain likes, wif minimal effort put in. Dis wld be worse when I barely knew the person I was following.

After seeing a lot of dis, I began to lose interest in wat was appearing on my feed.

I felt some loss of authenticity in ppl’s uploads, in the pursuit for attention. Maybe if there was more personal flair and creativity in the way it’s presented, it’ll feel more soulful and entertaining.

Posts oso began to seem more unwelcoming and specific to only certain people. It just feels like it’d be a whole lot more meaningful if they were to just be shared among close friends…

During dat experience, I also learnt wat was trending and popular among my demographic.

I was definitely influenced by them myself, I won’t lie. I too had my moments of trying to impress. If you’ve read my “Simping” story, you’d definitely know…

On top of dat, I’d oso put in effort, wif my own set of tryhard (or “act step”, as everyone used to call it) photos, random aesthetic views, food, and group pics. Always feeling the urge to please my mutual followers, who I mostly didn’t even noe in real life…

goofy ahh things like dis

But my changing thoughts and feelings eventually led me to dislike doing so. Everything started feeling a lil too fake and shallow.

It felt like everyone’s opinions of others became based on the pics and stories they uploaded. Clout chasing felt more rampant than ever. Anything just for more likes.

Instead, around then, my interest started developing elsewhere.

I began to grow more fond of looking at things dats more broadly entertaining. Things like amateur photography, self-made handicrafts, and creative artwork (before AI sorta ruined dat), by random, small, but passionate accounts suggested to me.

I enjoyed watching and sharing those content wif others, and wanted to create some amusing works to share myself.

Unfortunately I’m not very artistic, so the only “works” I made were some stupid memes.

It was fun for a lil bit. But then ppl started asking me why my account was so random and niche, and asked me why I couldn’t just post normal things.

Dat was understandable, but oso sad. In a way, using the app afterwards became a reminder of how out of place I felt. I liked sharing my own nonsense, but knew dat it wasn’t rlly appreciated, or in line wif the interests of those around me.

In addition, I oso didn’t rlly like posting photos of myself. I tend to not upload any real photos of my face or surroundings, across any social media. I don’t like the idea of being judged by my appearance.

So dat essentially left me wif no “normal” content to share. Together with my ever growing disinterest in ppl’s curated content, these eventually led me to delete my account.

BuT. I do miss the idea of seeing nice things, occasionally funny content, and sharing things I find amusing, whether ppl cared or not. Which is why I’ve recently redownloaded the app.

So now back on Instagram, I wish to keep it private, purely for myself, where I can enjoy things w/o having to comply wif others’ opinion of wat I’m supposed to find entertaining.

I’d like my explore page to stay like this

If u happen to find my account and chose to follow, pls dun be upset if I don’t follow back. I am trying my best to not suddenly appear in mutuals’ recommended accounts. Which will cause the same thing previously to happen again. I’d like to treat my Instagram as my secondary, additional Pinterest account for now.

Vic out.
