In a couple of hours, Mexico will be playing South Africa in the opening game of the 2026 World Cup.

Unfortunately it’ll be in the wee hours of abt 3am over here. Plus, there’s another fixture later dat day wif South Korea and Czechia, so dat’ll be the “opening fixture” for most of us instead.
My mom oso excitedly asked me abt the opening game. At first I tot wat, is she a closeted Mexico fan? But then she told me she wanted to see BTS, who’s supposed perform at some point. Ah…
Actly, I dun even noe if they’re gonna broadcast the halftime show here, cos I noe lots of countries, esp in Europe, aren’t going to. Half time’s gonna stick to the usual tactical analysis and punditry. None of dat “utter yank nonsense”.
.
Anyways, I’m not smart enough to predict the games’ outcomes. The favourites or underdogs or stuff like dat. But I noe enough to decide who I’ll be rooting for, against, and who I wanna watch just for the lols.
.
Teams I’ll support:
1. Mexico ๐ฒ๐ฝ
I like to make it a point to support the host nation. I mean, look at how they welcomed their guests โบ๏ธ:

Dis the kind of things u resort to when u come from a country dats probably nvr gonna qualify for a World Cup in ur lifetime ๐
.
I noe the USA r the main hosts for dis World Cup. But like… let’s be real, I dun think anybody (besides Americans) is gonna be cheering them on, lol.
There’s oso Canada, but idk anyone on dat team, so… ๐คท
Mexico oso has a Wolverhampton player as their striker. Dat is the club I support, and is therefore a big reason for my bias :3

.
2. Japan ๐ฏ๐ต
A bunch of hardworking and talented “Samurai Blues”. If any team deserves a World Cup, dat hasn’t won it yet, it’s gotta be Japan. They’ve got everything it takes to win honestly…. well maybe except physicality ๐
Still thou, if any Asian country’s gonna win the World Cup, it’ll probably be Japan. The football system they have in place is rlly a step above the rest (over here at least…)

.
And ofc, gotta be prepared for the inevitable articles of them cleaning the locker room after the game. Yea dat hasn’t gotten old….

.
Teams I look forward to watching:
1. Everyone from Africa (except Morocco) ๐ฟ๐ฆ๐จ๐ป๐ฉ๐ฟ๐จ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐น๐ณ๐ธ๐ณ๐ช๐ฌ
These guys bring the best vibes every tournament. It’s hard not to root for them. Whether they’re winning or losing, the fans r always doing some bizarre dancing and cheering, wif full passion throughout the whole 90 mins.

Unfortunately they’re not allowed to bring their vuvuzelas wif them. Wat a shame…

As for Morocco… ๐
.
2. Brazil ๐ง๐ท
Always among the favourites to win. These samba bois always bring both entertainment and quality football to the pitch.

Admittedly, the team dis time round doesn’t seem as promising as previous editions. Nonetheless, they have got a rlly good manager wif them dis time. Dats a massive upgrade, and dis genuinely cld actly be their year…
.
Teams I hope get thrashed:
1. USA ๐บ๐ธ
Real world politics aside, I have nothing against the USMNT players. I think they’re pretty great, and look to be one of the strongest USA lineups dats ever played in a World Cup.
But when u as a host country do shit like dis:

and dis:

It just sorta makes u think ayo, I dun rlly like these guys ๐. In fact, I’m pretty sure the majority of the world are united in rooting against the US.
It wld be quite a field day in journalism if they do put up a disappointing run as the host, hehe.

.
2. Morocco ๐ฒ๐ฆ
The antics from the previous African Cup sorta tarnished the national team’s reputation, like… forever. From stealing the opposing goalkeeper’s towels, to winning dat competition thru filing a lawsuit, like 3 months after it’s concluded.

Again, it makes u go hmmm, I dun like these guys very much…. So yea, one of these African teams is not like the other ๐
.
Hopefully it’s an eventful few weeks ahead, ye? โ
