{ Ahmed the Bad }

Currently in Ahmedabad, India  ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ. Out to compete again, abt just a week after Samoa. Dis time, in nearby Gandhinagar, against the other Asians (the literal best in the world). So ye, quite abit ๐Ÿค out of my league…

.

It’s actly my 2nd time here ever. And I’d say it’s quite a nice place. It’s pretty clean and safe, and has quite easily accessible conveniences nearby. Unfortunately it’s oso hot AF ๐Ÿฅต.

But I guess dats slightly better than the last time I came, where it was just raining the entire time cos of the monsoon.

Anyways, here are my inner thoughts during dis Asian Championships so far:

.

1) Strong but not ‘strong’

Unfortunately, my performance is another disappointing one ๐Ÿ˜”. There is still a gulf between my actual capabilities vs what I can perform on stage. It’s both frustrating and pretty annoying when my body and mind don’t cooperate while under pressure ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Me when it’s my turn to come out

Dat being said, I think dat aspect is getting better. Currently working on actly filling out my weight class, which helps alot. It helps me feel strong and slightly more confident when I compete now, rather than sluggish and wanting to kill myself. I am rite now physically stronger than my numbers suggest, so das great ๐Ÿ‘

My technique though, needs quite abit of work, to bridge dat gap. Rite now, I feel like some American quarterback who transitioned to weightlifting (though much shorter and skinnier, lol). Pretty strong and powerful, but lacking the mobility and muscle memory to consistently hit the right positions. Gotta add some grace to my movements โœจ. And probs do yoga or something like dat…

.

2) North vs South Korea

My session’s interesting cos there’s a North Korean ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ต dude in it. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a North Korean in person, so it was pretty interesting seeing him and his crew.

Sneaky pic ๐Ÿฅท

Wats amusing is the fact dat there r 2 hotels booked for the athletes, despite there not being a whole lot of us dis time round. Some suggested it’s due to quota limit, but others stated dat it’s to keep the Koreas apart ๐Ÿคซ

But I heard dat some genius put them in the same training time slot. So now there’s an air of unspoken tension during those sessions. They’ll either pretend to ignore each other, or be giving one another subtle dirty looks.

The South Korean team are oso promoting and giving out flyers of next year’s competition, dats being held over at Jeonju ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท. Funnily enough, they weren’t giving out those flyers to the North Koreans ๐Ÿคท

Yea, passive aggressive drama…

.

3) Damn bruh

Ok dis is abit embarrassing, but I gotta admit dat there were quite a few pretty women athletes around. Some of the ladies from Taiwan (or Chinese Taipei), regular China, and South Korea in the lighter weight categories (u48, u58, u63) are straight up making me go:

Dis is interesting to me as I nvr rlly thought of weightlifting athletes dat way. If there was a venn diagram of weightlifters and ppl I found attractive, it’s usually 2 separate circles.

Rite now there seems to be an overlap. Why is dis the case, I am not sure… considering there were oready quite a few weightlifting women in the media who were known for their good looks.

Like Ms Miserendino over here

Didn’t do nothing for me in dat way, though. I was paying more attention to their crazy strength over their appearance…

Now these women however, it’s a lil bit harder to just… ignore their looks…

Maybe it’s becos they look more like me, as well as the ppl around me (where I come from). Oso the fact dat they do the same sport as me. Makes me feel weird things ๐Ÿ˜–

.

… Anyways, let’s see if anything else interesting happens over here ๐Ÿ™
