{ Not a Hero }

“o wow how much I love not studying” I thought to myself. Spending like 3 hrs working on an assignment for a module u don’t give an iota of a crap about, is probably not the most fulfilling way to be living life. With that over it’s time for the gym. Not like the gym is all ‘sunshine and rainbows’, but I can say for sure it’s a whole lot better than reading a bunch of case studies, that may or may not even be related to the task at hand.

On my way, I noticed it was slightly more chilly than usual outside. It was still slightly drizzling, a little dark, and rlly windy. Everytime the temperature is below average here, I like to pretend its winter. Probably the most pathetic winter ever, but winter regardless.

The idea of winter conjured up more thoughts in my mind, specifically the Kpop idol Winter, and eventually settled on aespa. “Hmmm… aespa” I thought, so I went to Spotify and played their song ‘supernova’.

While passionately singing to myself, I was approached by a lady. Of course I had to do the mandatory pretend to clear my throat, in hopes that she didn’t hear me go “~BRING THE LIGHT OF A DYING STAR~”. She asked me where Block 3XX was. I told her, sorry I’m not sure 😓, and she said it’s fine, and I went off.

Now that could’ve been it. That should’ve been it. Unfortunately my mind didn’t let me think so. The ambassador of kindness in me told me that I had plenty of ways to have been more useful in that situation, such as using Google Maps or walking with her til she finds it, cos the block number hinted that it’s probably not far away. I thought, no it’s too late now. That was until I looked up and saw the block she was looking for, literally right in front of me.

No excuses now, I thought. I walked back… no actually, I ran back like a jackass in hopes that I wasn’t too late, and that she hasn’t left on her search in the wrong direction. Oof, suddenly it felt like I was in the ending of a romcom u know, male lead rushing to the airport to tell female lead about his feelings b4 she leaves. “Don’t Stop Believin” was in fact playing in my head as I was making my back track.

Unfortunately, my efforts were in vain. My return to the spot where she inquired me, was greeted with emptiness and disappointment. The idea that she could be at Blk 5XX at this point, or even worse Blk 8XX, reminded me of my failure. “At least I tried” I told myself, knowing full well my own words were of no assurance to myself, especially to that ambassador of kindness in me that expects a whole lot. But sometimes, you know, I’m only a man in a funny red sheet, and it’s not easy. Next time it’s Google Maps when people ask for directions, I pledge to myself at that moment.
